Athlete/Parent Information
Information Sheet Try-outs Player Expectations
The following information outlines the criteria the coach will use when choosing
the team during try-outs and determining who will play during the season.
Each expectation is equally as important as the others. This softball team is an
extra-curricular activity sponsored by, and representing Lewis Middle School.
Each and every coach, player, parent and fan is viewed by others as an official
representative of the school.
Behavior by coaches, players and fans must continue to promote the outstanding
reputation of Lewis Middle School.
Skill Camp and Try-outs Schedule:
Skill Camp for any LMS girl will be held Feb. 1 and 2.
Try-outs will begin on Feb. 5 and 6. All Camp and Try-out sessions will be from 1:45 til 4:00.
What you need for Camp and Try-outs:
Prior to try-outs at LMS you are required to have, on file at school, the following items:
Parent permission form (Good for the entire school year. Can be notarized in the
front office)
Sports Physical (valid for 1 calendar year)
Birth Certificate (Must be submitted if this is the first sport you have
participated in at LMS)
Camp and Try-outs will be held on the Lady Falcon Softball Field. Be at the
field by 1:45. Bring everything you will be taking home for the day with you or
place it in your PE locker. You will not be allowed to return to your hall
locker after practice. Make sure your ride home is at school no later than 30
minutes after practice end time. Your ride must pick you up on the side bus ramp
near the band hall. You will not be allowed to wait in the front of the
building. You will need your own glove and cleats. A warm jacket or sweat
shirt/pants and a filled water bottle are
recommended.
Criteria used for team selection
Introduction: The goals of the Lady Falcon Softball team are:
1) Be good students and citizens of Lewis Middle School
2) Demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship
3) Have fun practicing and playing the game to the best of our abilities.
Keeping these goals in mind the coach will select the team, and determine who represents the school in games using the following criteria.
Team Skills: While on and off the field team skills include:
Positive support of teammates
Listening (to the coach and teammates)
Hustle (practice at game speed)
Willingness to follow directions and attempt new tasks
Sportsmanship
Responsibility
A positive attitude in success and failure
Falcon Pride: While on the field you are a representative of Lewis Middle School. Off the field you will be a representative of the Lady Falcon Softball team. You are expected to demonstrate outstanding behavior at all times. Discipline or behavior problems in the locker room, in the classroom, or at any time you are representing the school are not acceptable. Input regarding student behavior will be solicited from teachers and administrators. Detentions and suspensions are discouraged. You need a 2.0 first semester GPA to be eligible to try-out, however, current grades in any class of D or F are below grade expectations for team members.
3rd quarter grades must meet eligibility
requirements in order to continue playing past March 9.
Athletic Dexterity: General athleticism; the ability to quickly and easily learn
and perform athletic tasks
