Lewis Middle School PTSO–Minutes from meeting May 04, 2009

PTSO President, Mrs. Andrea Hill, called the meeting to order at 5:35pm

Those present included: Andrea Hill, Julie Smith, Stacey Marks, Sandy Morton, and Kim Nelson.

Treasurer’s Report:

No significant expenditures noted.  No report.

Principal’s Report:

Mrs. Hill provided the report.  Our Vice Principal, Mr. Dennis Samac has been transferred to Destin Middle School.  Mr. Mikel welcomed Mrs. Whetstone to our school as the new Vice Principal and he is looking forward to her success.

Event Reports:

The teacher appreciation lunch went very well on Friday, April 17^th. 

Old Business

1. Teacher Appreciation Week begins today, May 4^th and continues all week.  Each day a gift of some sort will be provided :  Monday=ream of paper with a note of thanks and explanation, Tuesday=chocolate kisses in a bag, Wednesday=heart ornament with message and a sucker, Thursday=chocolate candy bar, and Friday=personal note on foam postcard and a luncheon catered by Julie Smith and Olive Garden.   

2.  The PTSO will sponsor a dance on May 29^th, the same day as the band’s rock-a-thon.  This should provide students, especially those not in band, a last chance to socialize before the end of the school year.  It will also help raise funds for the eighth grade celebration and give the PTSO account a last boost before next year.

New Business

1. The PTSO has agreed to help sponsor the eighth grade celebration, held on the last day of school.  Funding was provided, but future eighth grade celebrations will require some fundraising efforts from the students themselves (i.e. car wash, bagging of groceries, etc.)

2.  The PTSO board needs to be assembled before the beginning of the next school year.  Officers present, including Andrea Hill as PTSO President, Julie Smith as hospitality chair, Stacey Marks as Secretary, and Kim Nelson as treasurer agreed to continue for the next school year.  Other officers will be contacted and a vote in the next school year will be taken in order to confirm that these offices continue as stated.

3. Our next PTSO meeting is scheduled for the week prior to the first week of school.  We will meet at Lewis in the Media Center, tentatively on the 17^th of August.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm.
