Jacyln Mailoto wins Cox Essay Contest!

The Choctawhatchee Bay Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has announced that Katie Smith has won first place in the eighth grade division of the Okaloosa County American History Essay Contest.  Her original essay has been forwarded to the state contest.  Happy Birthday to Ben!

Katie's essay focused on the contributions of one of our most famous forefathers, Benjamin Franklin.  He not only was active in the political realm, but made a lasting impression in the worlds of literature and science as well.

Katie presented her essay as a special guest at the Jan. 12th DAR meeting, and received a medal in recognition of her achievement.  Congratulations Katie.  Lewis School is proud of you!

Lewis Middle School is proud of eighth grader, Jaclyn Mailoto winner of Cox Cable's "Making a Difference" Essay Contest.  Jacklyn's essay was selected over all others as the best tribute to an African-American in history.

Her essay on astronaut, Dr. Mae Jemison detailed the many accomplishments and contributions she made to our country.  Most notable of these is that Jemison became the first African-American woman in space when she served aboard the space shuttle Endeavour on September 12, 1992.

Exchange Club
Young Citizen of The Month

Michael Mitchell

Lewis student, Michael Mitchell, has been named the Exchange Club Young Citizen of the Month.  The national organization honors one extraordinary student each month and 7th grader Michael was chosen the recipient for January.

The award is meant to reward a student who personifies a good citizen.  They look for students who go above and beyond the call of duty, one who would never shirk when there is work to be done.  Someone that you would be proud to call daughter or son, friend, or classmate.  They strive to choose caring individuals who give to their communities.

Michael was honored at the January meeting of the Exchange Club.  His family and several members of the Lewis faculty were there to cheer for him as he was presented to the group.

We are proud of Michael, and are glad he's here at our school.
